Intent, breadth, progression, adaptation, assessment alignment and continuous curriculum review.

05

Safeguarding, health and safety, equitable access, SEND provision and support for different learner needs.

Continuous improvement cycle

From diagnosis to impact evaluation

The exemplar follows a connected six-stage process designed to keep improvement focused, evidence-led and measurable.

Review the school’s context, available evidence and current position across the six quality domains.

02

Prioritise

Identify a focused number of priorities according to impact, urgency, evidence confidence and feasibility.

03

Plan

Define measurable targets, responsibilities, resources, timescales and intended outcomes.

04

Implement

Deliver the agreed actions while recording progress, challenges and implementation evidence.

05

Monitor

Review agreed indicators, milestones and evidence at planned intervals throughout the improvement cycle.

06

Evaluate

Determine the impact of the work and decide what should be sustained, adapted, extended or discontinued.

Evidence triangulation

Strong findings require connected evidence

School-quality findings should not be based on a single document, observation, dataset or opinion. The exemplar encourages leaders to compare several independent sources and test conclusions against different perspectives.

Contradictory evidence should be recorded and investigated rather than removed from the diagnostic process.

Classroom observations and learning walks

Students’ work, portfolios and outcomes

Policies, plans and school records

Student, parent and staff voice
