The diagnostic considers learner outcomes and experiences alongside teaching, curriculum, inclusion, leadership and the school’s capacity to improve.
Attainment, progress, trends, learner groups, destinations and relevant external benchmarks.
Behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, citizenship, relationships, agency and preparation for future pathways.
Planning, pedagogy, challenge, inclusion, assessment, feedback and their impact on learning.
Intent, breadth, progression, adaptation, assessment alignment and continuous curriculum review.
Safeguarding, health and safety, equitable access, SEND provision and support for different learner needs.
Vision, accountability, self-evaluation, governance, improvement planning and the capacity to sustain progress.
Continuous improvement cycle
The exemplar follows a connected six-stage process designed to keep improvement focused, evidence-led and measurable.
Review the school’s context, available evidence and current position across the six quality domains.
Identify a focused number of priorities according to impact, urgency, evidence confidence and feasibility.
Define measurable targets, responsibilities, resources, timescales and intended outcomes.
Deliver the agreed actions while recording progress, challenges and implementation evidence.
Review agreed indicators, milestones and evidence at planned intervals throughout the improvement cycle.
Determine the impact of the work and decide what should be sustained, adapted, extended or discontinued.
